How to draw a floor plan
Five steps from blank paper to a 3D render. No prior experience needed.
- 1Pick a starting point
Load a template — Studio, 1BR, 2BR, or a small house — or start with a blank paper if you'd rather build from scratch.
- 2Draw your walls
Click the wall tool and tap to drop corners. Walls snap to 15° angles so your right-angles stay right. Press ESC when you're done with a run.
- 3Add doors and windows
Open the Library, pick Door or Window, and click on any wall. The opening snaps to the wall — drag it along to fine-tune the position.
- 4Place furniture and name your rooms
Drag pieces from the catalog onto the canvas. Rotate with R or the slider. Click any room to rename it — or hit Auto-arrange for a tasteful preset layout.
- 5See it in 3D with AI
When you're happy with the plan, hit “See it in 3D”. Your 2D sketch is handed to our AI, which renders the room photoreal in seconds.

- A kitchen reno — Test cabinet runs and appliance positions on paper first.
- A real estate listing — Sketch a clean floor plan to add to your listing.
- A design assignment — For school, a portfolio, or just for fun.
Frequently asked
The honest answers to the most common questions about this tool.
- Is the floor plan maker really free?
- Yes — fully free. No signup, no trial, no credit card. Use it as long as you want.
- Do I need to download or install anything?
- No. It runs entirely in your browser. Works on any modern desktop or tablet.
- Are the measurements accurate to scale?
- Yes. Walls and furniture are sized in real-world units (feet or meters, your choice). The dimensions in the inspector match what you'd measure with a tape.
- Can I save my floor plan?
- Your plan auto-saves to your browser, so you can close the tab and come back later. To share with someone, copy the URL — your plan is encoded in the link.
- Can I turn my 2D floor plan into a 3D render?
- Yes — that's the magic. When you click “See it in 3D”, your plan is sent to Vizualize AI, which renders it as a photoreal 3D space using your floor plan as a guide.
- What's the difference between this and the AI 3D tool?
- This is the 2D planning tool — sketching the bones of a space: walls, doors, furniture. The AI 3D tool takes any floor plan, including the one you build here, and renders it as a photoreal, fully-styled 3D room. They're designed to work together: sketch here, render there.
